Shuswap Immigrant Services Society (SISS) is committed to building an inclusive community where everyone is accepted, respected, free from violence and fear, and able to thrive, regardless of race, colour, cultural background, religion, age, sex, gender identity, sexual/affectional orientation, or level of ability.
There is no place for racism, discrimination, and hatred in our communities. We stand in unity with the Black Lives Matter movement, with Indigenous Peoples and Nations, and with other communities in calling for an end to racism and other forms of violence and oppression that have gone on for far too long.
SISS works to promote and celebrate diversity and inclusion by
· supporting newcomers who choose to settle in Salmon Arm and the Shuswap,
· connecting newcomers to other community organizations and resources,
· hosting the annual Gathering Together Multicultural Festival, and
· working with partners like the Thompson-Okanagan Respect Network and the Province of BC’s Organizing Against Racism and Hate initiative.
